Video killed the Radio Star is a single by the British band the Buggles
Released on September 7, 1979 as the first extract from the first studio album the Age of Plastic.
The song is so famous because it was one of the first to be accompanied by a videoclip. The one in question was directed by Russell Mulcahy and aired to inaugurate Mtv broadcasts on 1 August 1981 at 01.
Both the song and the video images (in which radio broadcasts are seen exploding) speak of a "Radio Star losing popularity with the advent of the "music to see' era.
In 1983, Duran Duran recorded and released the video for the song Union of the Snake.
Before I even got the song on the radio. Radio stations rose up in fear that this might be a future trend as projected by Killed the Radio Star video.
Curiously, the Duran Duran video was also directed by Mulcahy.
