Haka is a traditional warrior dance of the Maori people, the indigenous population of New Zealand, is a dance that expresses the inner feeling of those who perform it and can have multiple meanings.
It is not only an intimidating dance, as it is often mistakenly considered, but it may also want to be a manifestation of joy, of pain, a way of expression that leaves to those who perform it moments of freedom, in fact it is performed on various occasions such as welcome ceremonies, weddings, funerals and to celebrate important historical or sporting events.
Haka was made world famous by New Zealand’s national rugby team, the All Blacks, who perform their version of the Haka before each game.
The All Black version is called "Ka Mate" and was composed by a Maori chieftain named Te Rauparaha in the 19th century.
