The Death of Voltaire - Paris

Voltaire famous historian, philosopher and writer Enlightenment. He was famous for his witty and constant attacks on Christianity and especially the Catholic Church.


Voltare advocated freedom of religion, freedom of thought, and the separation of Church and State, very important for the evolution of today’s concept of democracy, was his treatise on tolerance.


It is said that in 1778 when he was dying a priest asked him to give up Satan by embracing the faith. His answer was "Priest right now is not the time to make new enemies".
