The paintings of Hitler - Berlin

Hitler in his youth wanted to become a professional painter, but his aspirations were destroyed by failing the entrance examination of the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, which he tried twice.

Before devoting himself to politics, Hitler produced hundreds of works and sold his paintings and postcards between 1908 and 1914. He signed mainly with the name Moncheu.

He officially forbade any advertising of his works. However, the black market continued, and in 1944 it was still possible to sell and buy a Hitler painting for 10,000 marks.

When he heard it, Hitler exclaimed these things should not cost more than 150 or 200 marks to pay them more is madness.

Nevertheless, according to the blue book, in August 1939, in the days before the war, Hitler told the British ambassador I am an artist and not a politician. Once the Polish question is resolved I want to pretend my life as an artist.

After World War II, many of his paintings were recovered and auctioned for several thousand dollars. Others have been taken by the United States Army and today they still belong to the government.

In 2002, an art critic was asked to give an opinion on Hitler’s paintings, without telling him who the author was.

The judgment was, "Pretty good. I notice a different style in the representation of human figures I think that the artist had a deep disinterest for people".
