In the woods of the Alps near Innsbruck lived a gnome who spent his days working wood.
He made all sorts of artifacts: human figures, statues of animals and tools of common use.
Often the gnome went to collect the wood in the mountains of Trentino and one day he came back from one of these excursions and went out of the wood into a village on the border between Italy and Austria.
It was on this occasion that she met a child. As soon as he saw him, he approached him with a friendly attitude and immediately began to look for a wooden puppet in his shoulder strap to give it to him, but swiftly digging through it, his stonemason fell out of his bag and used it to carve his creations.
The child was frightened and believing that the stonemason was a weapon he kicked the poor gnome with all his might and ran away.
The violence of football was such that the gnome remained lame.
Since then, the gnome has a deep dislike for children and it is said that he never misses a chance to scare them and make them naughty jokes.
Even today in the areas of Tyrol and Trentino there are those who swear to have seen him work to frighten children.
