A "speed camera lottery" has been installed in Stockholm, rewarding drivers who drive within speed limits.
The speed camera records all the plates of the cars passing in front of it and places them on a list from which, every year at Christmas, a winner is drawn by lot.
The prize consists of fines paid by those who have exceeded the limits.
Thanks to the lottery speed camera, the average speed of the machines decreased from 32 km/h to 25.
This system shows that in Sweden the goal of fines for drivers is really road safety and speed cameras are not just a way to increase the municipal coffers.
