Bluethoot - Danmark

The term Bluethoot derives from the name of the Danish King Harald Blåtand (Harald Bluethoot), who politically and religiously unified Denmark under his reign from 958 to 986.

His nickname was probably due to his rotten tooth.


The name Bluethoot was chosen for the new wireless data transmission standard in 1966.

When Ericsson, one of the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturers, developed a new technology to create a wireless connection between electronic devices.


The name Bluethoot was chosen as a tribute to Harald Blåtand, who united many Danish tribes into a single kingdom similarly the bluethoot combines different electronic devices through a single wireless communication technology.

In addition, the bluethoot logo is based on the rune of the name of Harald that looks like a symbol of union.
